| The Camera Swap Survival Guide
|
| In photography circles, you run into two types of people. Those who love their gear and those who would just as soon forget about. I love making photographs, but I also love cameras and the other gear used in the process. Therefore, I love camera swaps and flea markets. The variety of tools available for our craft is astounding and frankly overwhelming. But I and #8217;m here to help. I and #8217;ve been going to swaps for 12 years. I and #8217;ve been ripped off more times than I care to admit, but after all this time, I and #8217;m finding more treasure than fool and #8217;s gold. So today, I and #8217;ll guide you through the jungle that is the camera swap. |

| Quick Tip: Shooting a Classic Creepy Halloween Photo
|
| I was recently sent to an assignment at a local haunted house attraction called The Dent Schoolhouse for the annual Halloween issue of the newspaper I work for. I had around an hour to get at least two photographs. I packed as light and as mobile as possible: full frame camera, 50mm and 24mm lenses, a lightstand, one flash and an umbrella. I would have left the lighting gear, but haunted houses are usually a bit dark. Let and #8217;s see what I came up with! |

|
| Painting with light has been covered on many website, but this time I and #8217;m going to show you something a little different. I prefer to use a technique to enhance landscapes taken at twilight. The difference is that most of the landscape is lit by ambient light, taking advantage of the beautiful quality of the natural light in the evening. I use light painting to highlight one part of scene. |

| Understanding the Nikon Creative Lighting System
|
| In the last two years, movements such as Strobist have really popularized the use of creative flash. By removing the flash from above the camera, you can expand your lighting repertroire and illuminate subjects in ways that on-axis flash simply cannot. The Nikon Creative Lighting System makes this process fun and easy. |
